Our dentist offers scaling and root planing in Irvine, California, to help you get your gum disease under control and begin the process of regaining your oral health. Scaling and root planing is often the first treatment our dentist may recommend if you are diagnosed with gum disease and is generally very successful at treating mild to moderate periodontal disease.
There are two parts to scaling and root planing:
- Scaling — Scaling consists of removing plaque and harmful bacteria from your tooth surfaces.
- Root Planing — Root planing consists of removing plaque and harmful bacteria from the roots of your teeth and smoothing the surfaces. This discourages bacteria from reattaching and helps to kick-start the healing process.
Scaling and root planing may be combined with other periodontal treatments, such as antibiotic therapy, in order to produce the best results. Our dentist may also recommend splitting your treatment into several sessions in order to ensure that each quadrant of your mouth is thoroughly cleaned. Scaling and root planing can usually be completed comfortably without the use of anesthetic. However, anesthetic and other comfort options are available should you feel that you need them.
If you are in need of scaling and root planing or have any questions about periodontal disease and our treatment options, please do not hesitate to call QH Dental at 949-823-0006. We will be happy to schedule your consultation with our dentist and provide you with additional information.
